This white-variegated selection of the evergreen Vinca minor is about as elegant as they come. Each glossy green, oval leaf has a thin edge of white. The blue-purple flowers almost look regal above the seemingly rime-encrusted leaves, appearing from May through June and then reblooming sporadically until frost.

It was discovered in 1987 by David S. MacKenzie (author of [web=http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ISBN=0881925578/mallorncomputingA/]Perennial Ground Covers[/web]) as a sport of Vinca minor 'La Grave' -- he named it for a good friend and horticulturist.

I'd like to point out that this is probably the most superior white-margined Vinca on the market. Others like 'Sterling Silver' have the same lavender flowers as the species, but 'Ralph Shugert' retains the deeper blue flowers of its parent.

Like most Vinca vines it will produce fewer blooms in deep shade, so if you can give it partial shade it will be happiest. It will fill a space faster if grown in organic, moist, well-drained soil, but it will also grow quite well in heavy clay as long as it gets adequate moisture.
