If you're not into the new Vinca cultivars and prefer the old-fashioned standbys instead, why not give 'La Grave' a shot?

Every time that you've seen a Vinca planting in bloom that you ooh'ed and ahh'ed over, it was probably this cultivar. This improved strain of Vinca minor has rich, glossy green foliage and larger flowers than the straight species, but in the same traditional color and over a longer blooming season.

Discovered by the famous plantsman Edward August Bowles (and thus the source for its other two names, 'Bowles' Variety' and 'Bowlesii') in an alpine churchyard, it's also more of a clumper than a spreader, but it will easily root at the nodes in an organic soil. To ensure blooms, make sure that you give it a little bit of sun.
