I've been looking for this coral bell ever since I first saw it in the late 1990s at the Morton Arboretum. A 1996 introduction by Terra Nova nursery, it was one of the first coral bells to combine ruffled foliage with silver-burgundy hues and has won award after award ever since.

The foliage is tight, curly, and pewter-white with plum-colored veins and reddish-purple undersides. The new growth emerges flushed with pink, but slowly fades into silver with age. In the summer it produces light, airy panicles of greenish-white flowers in upright spires above the leaves.

As with most coral bells, drainage is the most important factor in its survival -- make sure that the roots don't sit in water, especially over the winter months.

It's a stunning partner with yellow-foliaged plants like Hakonechloa macra 'All Gold', but I also enjoy subtle combinations with pink-hued flowers like Convallaria majalis 'Rosea' or yellow flowers like Allium moly.
